West Midlands confirmed as UK production hub for inward investment film and television
The West Midlands has been recognised by the British Film Commission as the UK’s eighth official regional production hub for inward investment film and high-end television, giving producers a more direct route into the region’s locations, crew, facilities and production support.
The West Midlands has joined the UK’s network of official production hubs, recognising the region’s ability to support major scripted film and high-end television projects.
Official hub status is based on three core strengths: studio or stage space and supporting infrastructure, access to a skilled local crew base, and a proven ability to accommodate major scripted productions. The West Midlands has demonstrated that capability through productions including Peaky Blinders, feature film The Immortal Man and the forthcoming Peaky Blinders spin-off series.
For producers, the designation provides further confidence in a region with a growing production offer and a strong track record of bringing ambitious projects to the screen.
Across Birmingham, Coventry, the Black Country and the wider West Midlands, productions can access distinctive urban, industrial, heritage and rural locations, alongside experienced crew, studio facilities, build space and a growing regional supply chain.

The West Midlands now joins established production hubs in London and the South East, Bristol, Manchester and Liverpool, Leeds, Belfast, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and Cardiff as part of the UK-wide inward investment production offer.
The recognition comes as the region continues to strengthen its production infrastructure. Digbeth Loc. Studios is supporting major film and television projects in the heart of Birmingham, while the BBC’s planned regional headquarters at the Tea Factory will further expand the creative cluster in Digbeth.
